LOCATION & VISITATION
Holy Cross Cemetery was founded originally by Holy Rosary Parish in 1862. The Dominican priests established this cemetery to serve the needs of Catholics and their families from eastern Contra Costa County. The cemetery was expanded in 1968 when it became a diocesan facility. Holy Cross is north of State Route 4 and Southwest of State Route 160 in the city of Antioch.
The cemetery gates are open for visitation every day of the year from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Mausoleum buildings are open from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM daily.

HISTORY & FACILITIES
Holy Cross Cemetery is actually two distinct facilities, located on either side of East 18th Street in the city of Antioch. When the Dominican fathers came to eastern Contra Costa County to minister to the needs of Catholics and their families, they established a parish cemetery.
When the Diocese of Oakland was invited to assume responsibility for Holy Cross Cemetery and expand to a full service facility, additional property was acquired across the street.
Holy Cross Cemetery is now a 55 acre property. To date 20 acres have been developed into sections for ground burial. There are numerous developed grave spaces in current inventory in both the Crucifixion and St. Joseph Sections.
In 1968, development of this facility was inaugurated with two garden mausoleum crypt structures, an office, maintenance facility, and a two-acre lawn section for ground burials. Extensive landscape and an irrigation system are new features of Holy Cross Cemetery, an extension of what is one of the oldest cemeteries in the Oakland Diocese.
The second mausoleum complex was completed in 1982 and contains a chapel for entombment services as well as memorial Masses that are celebrated each month.
In 1992 a third garden complex was constructed with additional crypts, niches, and a new section for ground burial. There are several areas in the cemetery that have been designed to accept and memorialize the inurnment spaces for cremated remains.
Over the course of the cemetery’s 136 years of service, over 10,000 committal services have taken place. Holy Cross Cemetery currently supports the burial needs of 9 eastern Contra Costa County parishes.
Cemetery Family Service Counselors are available six days a week for both preneed and at-need arrangements available.
